Steel Benders UK proud to sign armed forces covenant in historic ceremony

Leading North-East manufacturing specialist Steel Benders UK is proud to have formally pledged its support to the military community by officially signing the Armed Forces Covenant.

The prestigious signing took place during a historic ceremony at the Hospitium in York Museum Gardens, coinciding with attendance at the Royal Salute celebrating the Coronation of His Majesty The King.

The Covenant was signed on behalf of Defence by Major General Robert Hedderwick, General Officer Commanding 1st (United Kingdom) Division, alongside Phil Anderson, Operations Director of Teesside’s Steel Benders.

By signing the Covenant, the prominent steel processing and manufacturing business is publicly demonstrating its strong commitment to the Armed Forces.

The pledge

The pledge recognises the value that serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families bring to both the commercial sector and wider society.

Phil said: “I’m incredibly honoured to have formally signed the Armed Forces Covenant. Attending the Royal Salute in celebration of the Coronation of His Majesty The King made the occasion even more special, and it was a privilege to be part of such a significant event.

“At Steel Benders, we take great pride in supporting the Armed Forces community -recognising the dedication, skills and values that serving personnel, veterans and reservists bring to both industry and society.

“It was a privilege to be part of such a significant event, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen our commitment and playing our part in supporting those who serve.”

Workplace initiatives

As part of its ongoing commitment, Steel Benders proactively supports the military community through various workplace initiatives.

This includes providing reservists with flexible working arrangements where possible, enabling them to seamlessly train and deploy when required.

The company also champions fair and inclusive recruitment for veterans and service leavers, ensuring their unique, highly transferable skills are fully recognised and understood.

This historic pledge comes during a period of growth for Steel Benders.

The Covenant was signed on behalf of Defence by Major General Robert Hedderwick, General Officer Commanding 1st (United Kingdom) Division, alongside Phil Anderson, Operations Director of Teesside’s Steel Benders.

Leading provider of heavy steel bending

As a leading provider of heavy steel bending and profiling services, the company is highly regarded across the marine, defence, renewable energy and civil engineering sectors.

They specialise in high-precision plate rolling, section bending, press braking, tube and pipe forming, as well as advanced plasma and laser cutting.

Currently operating from its established base on Dockside Road in Middlesbrough, the ambitious company is in the process of a major strategic relocation.

Steel Benders is investing heavily to move its entire operation to a new six-acre facility at the former Caparo and forge plant site on Brenda Road in Hartlepool this summer.

This multi-million-pound expansion will significantly increase their production capacity, create valuable new skilled jobs for the local community, and house the only 8x2m fibre laser cutting bed in the North of England.
